Ever wonder who pays for what expense for a wedding?  There are no clear-cut rules but here is a list of more traditional division of the duties.

The bride traditionally pays for:

  • Wedding ring for the groom
  • Wedding gift for the groom
  • Bridesmaid gifts
  • Bridesmaid luncheon
  • Accommodations for out-of-town guests

The groom traditionally pays for:

  • Wedding ring for the bride
  • Wedding gift for the bride
  • Groomsmen / usher gifts
  • Bride’s bouquet
  • Mothers’ corsages
  • Groom, groomsmen and usher boutonnieres
  • Marriage License
  • Limousine service
  • Honeymoon arrangements
  • Clergy / officiate fee

The bride’s family traditionally pays for:

  • Wedding gown, headpiece and accessories
  • Bridesmaid bouquets & grandmother corsages
  • Ceremony & reception flowers & decor
  • Rental items for wedding & reception
  • Invitations / announcements
  • Wedding programs, napkins, favors
  • Church, musicians, janitor, reception hall fees
  • Professional services - photographer, videographer, musical entertainment, caterer, cake decorator
  • Father of the bride formal wear

The groom’s family traditionally pays for:

  • Groom’s cake
  • Rehearsal dinner
  • Father of the groom formal wear
